You Don’t Have to Lose Everything to Get Help
Maybe you’ve been thinking about treatment for months. Maybe something happened this week that changed things. Or maybe someone you trust finally said what you’ve already been thinking. It’s time to get some help.
The Key Addiction Treatment provides addiction treatment for Marina, CA residents and families throughout Monterey County and the Central Coast. We work with people who are struggling with alcohol, drugs, mental health concerns, trauma, or a combination of issues that have become increasingly difficult to manage alone. Treatment isn’t about judging how you got here. It’s about understanding where you are now and figuring out what can realistically help you move forward. With detox, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), dual diagnosis treatment, and trauma-informed care, The Key offers different levels of support based on your needs and where you are in recovery.
There’s Usually More Going On Than What You Can See
Addiction is often described in terms of substances and consequences. How much are you drinking? What are you taking? How often? Has it affected your job? Your marriage? Your health? Those questions matter. But they’re only part of the conversation.
We also want to know what’s happening when you aren’t drinking or using. Are you anxious? Depressed? Having trouble sleeping? Dealing with something painful from your past? Has work become overwhelming? Do you feel like substances are the only reliable way to shut everything off? Understanding those connections can make treatment more meaningful.

Alcohol can become a problem long before someone thinks of themselves as having an alcohol problem. It might start with drinks after work. A couple of beers while watching a game. Wine with dinner. More drinking on weekends. Then the rules you set for yourself start changing. Only weekends becomes Thursday through Sunday. Two drinks becomes four. You decide to take a month off and make it four days.
Our alcohol addiction treatment helps clients recognize these patterns and understand what’s keeping them going. Evidence-based treatment may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, individual therapy, group counseling, and relapse-prevention work. The purpose isn’t simply to remove alcohol. It’s to make sure you have better options when stress, cravings, difficult emotions, or familiar triggers return.
There are plenty of ways drug dependency can begin. Pain medication after an injury. Something prescribed for anxiety. Stimulants used to keep up with a demanding schedule. Recreational use that becomes more frequent. Opioids that become increasingly difficult to stop. By the time someone asks for help, how it started may matter less than the fact that stopping has become difficult.
Our drug addiction treatment is developed around the individual. We consider the substances involved, history of use, physical health, mental health, previous attempts to stop, and your current circumstances. Treatment may incorporate individual counseling, group therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), mindfulness, relapse prevention, and other clinical services depending on your needs.
Mental health and addiction can become a frustrating cycle. You’re anxious, so you drink. Drinking helps temporarily but eventually makes the anxiety worse. You’re depressed, so getting high gives you a break. Then the consequences of using give you even more reasons to feel depressed. Breaking that cycle often requires addressing both sides of it. Our dual diagnosis treatment addresses substance use alongside co-occurring concerns such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and trauma. Instead of treating these as unrelated problems, our clinical team looks at how they’re connected and develops treatment around the bigger picture.
Not everything stays in the past just because it happened a long time ago. Trauma can influence how someone handles conflict, relationships, stress, fear, anger, and difficult memories. Sometimes alcohol or drugs become the quickest way to avoid those feelings. That’s a connection worth understanding.
The Key provides trauma-informed addiction treatment that may incorporate EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), individual counseling, group therapy, and other evidence-based approaches. The objective is not to keep revisiting painful experiences. It’s to help reduce the influence those experiences continue to have over your present life.
Someone who has developed physical dependence may need detox before beginning therapy. Another person may need intensive daily treatment and significant clinical structure. Someone farther along in recovery may benefit from regular treatment while returning to work, school, or family responsibilities. At The Key, several levels of care make it possible to adjust treatment as those needs change.
