The Key Residential Recovery Center
The Key’s residential rehab program in Santa Cruz is a six-bed facility surrounded by redwoods. Care is directed by Dr. Bobby Singh, an Addiction Medicine physician trained at Stanford, working alongside licensed psychologists, therapists, and wellness staff. Treatment plans are built case by case based on clinical history, substance use, and any co-occurring mental health conditions. Programming includes individual therapy, group sessions, and complementary modalities such as acupuncture and yoga. Both private and shared rooms are available. With only six beds, clinical staff know every client personally. Unlike larger facilities where care plans get filtered through case managers, treatment decisions here are made by the physicians and therapists in the room.

Welcome to The Key- A Message from Dr. Bobby Singh, Founder
“I hope this message finds you in a moment of strength and openness to change. Your journey matters, and I am committed to offering tangible solutions, guiding individuals and families toward lasting recovery, and contributing to the broader understanding of addiction. If you choose to embark on this path with us here at The Key, know that you will not be alone”. — Dr. Bobby Singh
Outpatient vs. Inpatient Treatment in Santa Cruz
Both inpatient and outpatient treatment can lead to lasting recovery from substance use disorder. The right level of care depends on the severity of the addiction, whether co-occurring mental health conditions are present, what the home environment looks like, and how much structure a person needs to stay safe and engaged in treatment.

Inpatient Treatment Services
Residential treatment is the right fit when:
- Medically supervised detox is needed
- A co-occurring mental health condition makes outpatient care unsafe
- The home environment is unstable or actively reinforces substance use
- Previous outpatient treatment did not result in sustained recovery
- 24/7 structure and supervision is needed to stabilize
The Key’s residential program provides 40 to 50 hours of structured treatment per week, with clients living on-site for the duration of their stay. The 24/7 nursing and clinical access makes this the appropriate level of care for clients in early recovery who need round-the-clock support to stay safe and engaged.
Clients who need medically supervised detox before residential treatment can begin with our Detox program and transition into residential care once stabilized.
Outpatient Treatment Services
Outpatient treatment lets you continue recovery while keeping up with work, school, and family. You don’t live at the treatment site, and the schedule is designed to fit into the rest of your life rather than replace it. Sessions are structured and consistent, but the lighter time commitment gives you space to put what you’re learning into practice at home, on the job, and in your relationships.
The Key offers Partial Hospitalization (PHP) for clients who need more intensive support and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) for clients with more flexibility in their schedules. Both can serve as the starting point for treatment or as step-down care following residential, with weekly family involvement built in throughout.
